Mary Dan Ingram Coleman Miller died at her residence in Savannah, Georgia on October 31, 2009 under the care of Hospice Savannah and her loving caregiver, Izetta Wright. Mrs. Miller was born in Fayetteville, Georgia, the daughter of L.A. Ingram, Sr. and Mattie Lena Blalock Ingram. She had two brothers now deceased and a deceased daughter, Mary Ellen Coleman Pettigrew.

Mrs. Miller was an educator, having served as a teacher, supervisor, curriculum director and college instructor. She graduated from Fayetteville High School, Georgia State College for Women Georgia College and State University and received a master's degree from George Peabody College Vanderbilt University. She was the first certified supervisor in Georgia. Mrs. Miller worked for twenty-five years as a curriculum director for the Glynn County School System. She also started the Department of Education at Armstrong Atlantic State University. She was honored by the Georgia General Assembly and in person by President Harry Truman in Washington, D.C. for founding the Driver Education Program in Georgia. Mrs. Miller also served as President of the Exchangette Club of Savannah and was honored as the Georgia Exchangette of the Year in 1980.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband, Robert P. Miller; a daughter, Dr. Linda Coleman and granddaughter, Kathlene Coleman of Tampa, Florida; a son, C. Somers Miller Alice and two grandchildren, Payne and Alice Lawson Miller of Beaufort, South Carolina; a daughter, Susan Miller Wunder Stephen and grandchildren, Stephen and Jenzy of Duncan, South Carolina; son-in-law, James F. Pettigrew of Thomasville, Georgia and granddaughter, Danellan Pettigrew of Brunswick, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 3, at White Bluff United Methodist Church with Rev. John Haney officiating. Visitation will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, Georgia 31416.
